A message from District Governor,
Dear Rotary Friends
During the first half of my year as District Governor, I have been privileged to travel the length and breadth of Rotary District 9600, visiting clubs, speaking with members and observing the way you go about your business, plan your activities and interact with your communities.
For me, these visits have been not only enlightening but truly inspirational. I often wished I could take you all with me as I encountered each new experience.
At the end of my program of visits, I am confronted by two apparently contradictory insights.
First, this is an extraordinarily diverse district. It contains a thriving and economically advanced first world metropolitan and rural region and hundreds of villages and hamlets in our developing countries, striving to come to terms with globalisation and its impact on traditional family and community ways of living. District 9600 is a place of many languages, customs, traditions and ways of looking at the world. It is a place of broad acre farms and intensive garden plots; of torrential tropical rain and extensive drought; of high tech manufacturing and exquisite artisan craftwork. It is, in short, remarkably different.
Yet, in another sense, District 9600 is extraordinarily similar. Wherever I go I find Rotarians and their communities struggling to come to terms with change; expressing concern for the world we are leaving to our children and grandchildren; recognising that collaborative action can bring about change for the better and that people of goodwill who put service above self can have a transformational impact on their own lives, that of their communities and the world at large.
I am delighted to welcome you to the Annual Conference of Rotary District 9600. Come, join us. Dare to dream and become the Inspiration!
Yours in Rotary Service
